The EquiCentre for Growth & Learning at the Capital Area Therapeutic Riding Association (CATRA) in Grantville, PA is an experientially based, equine-assisted program offering a variety of dynamic, interactive, and educational services to individuals, businesses, and organizations in the capital region and beyond.

The EquiCentre team of expert facilitators includes an EAGALA certified Mental Health Practitioner, EAGALA certified Horse Specialist, and one or more equine.

All work is done on the ground and never involves riding.  Equine-assisted programs are not about horsemanship, but instead horses and other equine assist in creating powerful experiences promoting education, introspection, awareness, and growth.

EquiCentre horses and other equine are critically important partners in the work at the program. The equine’s nature and sensitivity to subtle changes in the environment make them perfect partners in the pursuit to improve skills and understanding in both the personal and professional realms of our participants’ lives.

Experiential Modality
Kramer at the EquiCentre for Growth & LearningAs its name suggests, the experiential modality involves actions, movements, and activities rather than the more traditional “talk-styles” of life coaching or educational lecturing. Developed in the 1970’s, the experiential modality is an approach that encourages clients to identify and address issues, learn new tasks, or gain personal insight through activities such as role playing, guided imagery, the use of props, and a range of other active experiences. “Experiential” is a category, rather than one specific type of activity.

What does “Equine-Assisted” mean?

“Equine-Assisted” involves the participation of horses and other equine within the experiential model. It refers to interactions or activities in which the animals assist in facilitating education, understanding and positive change.  Experiential learning at the EquiCentre emphasizes the “learners perspective.” Through the utilization of equine partners and the experiential method, participants are able to address important issues and needs not only in the present moment but which also have profound impact upon their life, relationships, and career.  These experiences are of significant benefit not only to individuals, couples, and families, but also businesses, corporations, and organizations looking to support their staff and clients while maximizing their potential.
